The sponge filter provides both mechanical and biological filtration, the powerhead maintains a constant flow which increases the oxygen solubility beneficial for nitrifying bacteria growth. The pump is low voltage saving power but still cycles up to 430 liters an hour, making it excellent for aquarists who are on a budget or breeders who want to have superb filtration without blowing up the power bill.
